About Thunder Thimble
Thunder Thimble is an independent site that helps you choose a home weather station. We compare the models people actually buy and explain them in plain words.
You don't need to know weather jargon to use it. We explain the terms that matter, like sensor array, console, gateway and rain gauge, as we go.
What we cover
Our guides cover Wi-Fi, solar, wireless console and ultrasonic stations, plus the sensors, mounts, batteries and fixes that go with them. The brands include Ambient Weather, AcuRite, La Crosse, Sainlogic, Ecowitt, Tempest, VEVOR and Netatmo.
Each guide puts models side by side, so you can see what you give up and what you gain at each step.
How we work
For every station we read the maker's specs and feature list. We also look at what buyers often say after living with one, like weak signal, hard setup or drifting readings.
Then we write short guides, comparisons and picks in everyday words. Our How we research page explains the steps.
What we don't do
We don't make or sell weather stations, and no brand pays us to rank its products. Thunder Thimble is not affiliated with Ambient Weather, AcuRite, La Crosse, Sainlogic, Ecowitt, Tempest or any other maker.
We don't claim to have tested every station ourselves. When we pick one, we tell you why, based on its specs, its features and buyer feedback.
A note on safety
A home weather station is a hobby and planning tool, not a warning system. For storm alerts, use the National Weather Service and a NOAA weather radio.
How we earn money
Some links on this site go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never changes which products we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
